Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza di Biumo (Varese) is restored by the renowned Milanese architect Piero Portaluppi. Ernesto, Giuseppe’s father, had bought the villa in 1935.
1945
After having spent two years in Switzerland, Giuseppe returns to Italy in 1945. In Varese, he frequents the cultural milieu of sculptor Vittorio Tavernari who introduces him to the abstract art of Mario Radice, Atanasio Soldati and Osvaldo Licini; he meets painters and writers such as Renato Guttuso, Eugenio Montale, and Guido Piovene.
1948
Giuseppe and Giovanna meet in Courmayeur (Spring).
Giuseppe earns a master’s degree in philosophy of law with a thesis on the concept of justice in philosopher Antonio Rosmini (University of Milan, November).
He begins managing the family’s real estate properties (June).
